It's April... And You Know What That Means.

Actually you probably don't, but that's ok. April is National Poetry Month. (You're excited now, aren't you!) Hopefully some day soon, I'll write some poetry and post it, but for today I want to share a poem that I love: "Preludes" by T.S. Eliot. I think the commentary at the top captures the essences of the poem when it says, "'Preludes,' deals with spiritually exhausted people who exist in the impersonal, tawdry modern city. 'Preludes' impressionistically captures the impoverished spiritual lives of those living in a lonely, sordid, decadent culture." Certainly applicable themes for today, nearly 100 years later.

I love the images of the poem and the way the words sound. Stanza III is my favorite, but my favorite line is at the end:
"… eyes / Assured of certain certainties, / The conscience of a blackened street / Impatient to assume the world."
