If you haven't before you should check out DailyLit.com, you can get books for free or low cost, delivered in installments to your email or RSS. Right now they're doing a Big Read where they try to get everyone reading the same thing; they've chosen "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." I've heard mixed reviews about the movie, but you can't pass up reading the story for free in 11 lovely installments.
I haven't read a ton of stuff over DailyLit, mostly because some of the classics they offer, like Anna Karenina, take like 400 installments. That's a long, slow commitment. (They have non-classics too, but I'm a nerd, and also the classics tend to be free.) They do have some short stories and collections of stories. I think next I'm gonna read The Best American Humorous Short Stories and maybe pick up some theater with Chekhov's The Seagull. Perhaps I'll give James Joyce's Dubliners a shot too. You can also pick when each installment arrives; I think the humor stories will make a wonderful lunch time read.
